Have you ever stopped to consider, if the clothes you wear are in some way reflected in the style of decor in your home? I started to really understand the connection when my husband and I begin our home journey. One example of this is my lack of shiny jewelry. While it may sound silly there is a direct link to our home. And guess what? We have nothing shining throughout our home.
Now have I tried to incorporate shiny sparkly items in our home? Yes, I sure have, just like I have tried to wear shiny jewelry, and it’s just not for me. Although this does not negate the fact that I admire the sparkly and shiny of somebody else’s accessories at home or on them.
Living a double life is OK
I have often defined personal style through what I wear, and have always viewed my home as a natural extension of that. But what happens when you’re experiencing a bit of a self-identity crisis? I remember feeling unstylish and detached from my home and closet. I was left trying to figure out how I had unintentionally derailed away from my love of fashion and decor and misplaced my style.
Personal style is such a slippery something to explain because it can’t be minimized to just one style. Although I might put on a pop of color to get motivated for the day, I rely on our home to help me de-stress. For many people, the two simply serve different needs, and if you’ve been having trouble harmonizing one with the other. Just know, it’s ok to live a double life in some cases. For illustration, you may dress subdued for work life and subsequently enjoy the confines of a colorful eccentric, and abstract home. A
Which one is me?
While my wardrobe is rather a hodgepodge in style, it allows me the ability to dress the part on a day-to-day basis. I find that both serve two very different purposes, I don’t think that they necessarily need to cross. My attire can be used to direct or redirect my day or a certain atmosphere. Hence dressing the part. It also gives such an interchanging opportunity to be creative.
Whereas our home is where I return to every day, for escape and recharge. I would describe it as more enduring, and I want it to feel familiar, warm, relaxing, and functional for our use. My getups aren’t always functional, but my house undoubtedly is.
Just know it’s ok to live a double life sometimes lol. Because as for me both our home and my wardrobe are certainly me. Take a look around and tell me what you think. Is your style of clothes reflected in your home decor?
